Boulder Supply.com is a new division of Caroline-A-Contracting, Inc. of Waynesville.
Boulder Supply.com harvests mountain granite from steep mountain terrain in Haywood County and turns otherwise unusable land into usable homesites. "We sell locally and export rock for use in construction, but we specialize in landscape boulders and specialty rocks for use as entrance signage for upscale developments." Said Burton Edwards.
The boulder that ultimately became the sign for 'The Preserve at Jonathan Creek' was recently unearthed. It is a slab of mountain granite about 5 feet high by 17 feet long and about 18 inches thick with a flat face. ìGetting the rock off of the mountain in one piece was definitely a challenge.î Said Edwards.
Architect Joe Sam Queen and developer Ron Hooker took one look at the rock and knew it was exactly the statement they wanted to make for the entrance of 'The Preserve'.
Once the rock was at Boulder Supply.com's shop, it was cleaned, a mask was prepared and the letters were painstakingly sandblasted into the surface. A concrete footer was constructed at the development entrance. A form was prepared and a concrete riser was constructed to Joe Sam Queen's specifications. Finally the rock and riser were lifted in to place with a crane and a third pour of concrete locked the sign and footer together.
